The eGHOST project seems to be a vital step in ensuring the sustainability of Europe’s hydrogen economy. By focusing on developing new tools to assess environmental, economic, and social aspects, eGHOST aims to address the multifaceted challenges associated with transitioning to a hydrogen-based economy.

Assessing the environmental impact of hydrogen production and usage is crucial for ensuring that it contributes to overall decarbonization goals. This includes evaluating factors such as greenhouse gas emissions, water usage, and land use. Additionally, considering the economic aspects involves assessing the cost-effectiveness of hydrogen technologies, potential job creation, and market dynamics.

Furthermore, the social dimension is equally important, as the transition to a hydrogen economy may have implications for communities, workers, and consumers. Assessing social aspects involves evaluating factors such as equity, accessibility, and community engagement.

By developing tools that comprehensively assess these environmental, economic, and social dimensions, the eGHOST project can provide valuable insights to policymakers, industry stakeholders, and communities. These insights can inform decision-making processes, ensuring that the transition to a hydrogen economy is not only technically feasible but also socially and economically beneficial for all stakeholders involved.

The whole Consortium has come together to organise a results presentation day to share this first milestone in the eco-design criteria in the European hydrogen sector. To this end, we have organised the eGHOST Day aimed at professionals in the sector, both from the academic and research context, as well as from the professional one.

We look forward to seeing you on the 16th of May at the White de Atrium (Brussels). Join us to learn more!

During the day we will address the main challenges and questions:

  • What are the main challenges facing industry in relation to ecodesign guidelines and how can we effectively address them?
  • How can relevant international standards, protocols and directives work more closely with ecodesign guidelines to promote sustainability in FCH industries?
  • What specific opportunities arise from the implementation of eco-design guidelines? How can they be maximised?
  • What are the practical and economic implications of aligning eco-design guidelines with international standards in the FCH sector?
  • What role can different actors, including governments, standards organisations and companies, play in promoting and adopting eco-design guidelines?
  • How can we ensure that the science behind this project effectively supports the needs and objectives of all parties involved?
What concrete steps can be taken to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing between the different actors in the field of eco-design and international standards?
